Many of us have heard the hype. There is no difference in plain sugar or high fructose corn syrup. It is all just sugar and your body can’t tell the difference. Really? More and more studies are coming out saying that might not be so. If you or anyone you care about is on the heavy side, think twice about having products in your home that include high fructose corn syrup.  Simple changes in your purchases at the grocery store can help.

One 2010 Princeton University research study showed high fructose corn syrup does prompt a significant increase in weight gain than does regular sugar. In this study, rats were given high fructose corn syrup and showed up to 48% more weight gain.  They developed signs of obesity and excessive belly fat when compared to a control group that got comparable amounts of sucrose (regular sugar). Scary stuff when you consider the amount of high fructose corn syrup they received was the equivalent to what each of us would get in just have a serving of soda.
