• flor1Summer is often the time when children are able to visit parents and bring the grandkids. This is a great opportunity for grandma and grandpa to spend quality time with the grandkids. Unfortunately this can also be costly. Many grandparents live on a fixed social security income and possibly a pension. With the increased costs of gasoline, food, prescription drugs and medical costs, it can be difficult to make ends meet let alone cover the cost of visiting relatives.

Many grandparents are unaware of a little known Passport program that gets you free admission to many science museums and botanical gardens.   Simply purchase an annual family or grandparent  membership at your local museum that has a reciprocal agreement with many other museums. This agreement allows you free admission on every visit to 300+science centers, museums and botanical gardens worldwide (21 in Florida).

This is a great opportunity for grandparents to affordably enjoy quality time with the grandchildren over the summer as well as a great program for moms and dads to also spend quality time with the kids. The program is called the ASTC Passport Program.  I am able to obtain a family membership at the local Charlotte County Historical Museum in Port Charlotte, Florida for just $35 a year for a family membership.  Our local museum also offers a Grandparent membership that includes a spouse and all grandchildren 18 and under.  With this membership, you will have plenty of places to visit this summer affordably.2
