I am so happy that I can finally ride my bike again. I bought this super cool bike at Target after Christmas last year. This bike is adorable, covered in flowers and designed by Alice & Olivia.  It even has a little license plate on the back that says Alice & Olivia.  The front has a white basket with a belt around it.  I saw this bike and I swear it had my name written all over it. I knew this was the bike for me!  I ordered the bike on Target online and it arrived via UPS.  Once assembled, I was able to ride it a few times before my doctors appointment in January.

At my annual physical, my doctor made it clear I was not to ride my bike at all.  His concern was that I might break a bone because of my osteoporosis.  Lets just say that was a really sad day.  I has just purchased the cutest little bike and now I was not allowed to ride it?  I was not a happy camper.  Considering I have broken many bones, my husband and I talked about it and decided I really needed to follow the doctors orders.  So sadly, that is what I did.  And, of course I gained 15 pounds from NOT riding my bike.

Fast forward my recent doctors appointment and the results of my new bone density test. Instead of the severe osteoporosis of the hip, I now have mild osteopenia.  Yippee!  I still have a little work to do but that is a huge improvement.  Since I was not a candidate for taking calcium supplements and I did not feel comfortable with the side effects of the prescription bone strengthening medications, I decided improving my diet was the only solution.

Every morning I have had a XO chocolate meal replacement wellness shake with over 56,000 ORACfn (amount of antioxidants found in fruits and vegetables) and 21 grams of protein.  According to the XO site, “Remember, the ORAC measures how well components of food mop up the free radicals in the bloodstream. Eating 50,000 or more will significantly boost the antioxidant potency of your blood. This is one of those rare areas of nutrition where more truly is better.”  This shake is how I easily improved my health.  They have lots of yummy sample shake recipes, however my absolute favorite is the chocolate peanut butter banana shake.  I make it with 1/2 frozen banana, 1/2 tsp of peanut butter, 1 cup water, 1 cup ice and 2 scoops of the XO meal replacement shake.  Adding the frozen banana makes this a thick and yummy shake that I crave.
