xocaicomparisonI read an interesting article today by Natural News called “The Eight Best Foods For Your Heart Health“. Expecting to see a list of things I don’t dare eat or at least something I don’t want to eat, I was pleasantly surprised that the third best food on the list was dark chocolate. Ever since my brother died at age 42, I have focused on eating heart healthy options. I love what they had to say about chocolate, “A direct link to chocolate consumption and reduced risk of heart attack and stroke has been established by different researches. This is because dark chocolate (chocolate variants made of at least 60% cocoa) contains a high amount of polyphenols, a compound that reduces blood pressure, clotting, and inflammation”.

Berries, citrus, nuts, oats, fish, red wine and olive oil complete the heart healthy list. According to the Merriam-Webster medical dictionary, Polyphenols are “an antioxidant phytochemical (as chlorogenic acid) that tends to prevent or neutralize the damaging effects of free radicals”.  Few foods are high in polyphenols but thankfully dark chocolate is a great source of them. It is important to note that all chocolate is not created equal.

Do yourself a favor and stick with the healthy chocolate. This is chocolate that has not me2been heated or dutched like traditional chocolate. XO Healthy Chocolate is the only chocolate available with this patented technology. The advantage of the chocolate is that it keeps in all those important antioxidants that are so good for us. Eating just 3 pieces of XO Healthy Chocolate is like eating 8-10 servings of antioxidants from fruits and vegetables.

If you or someone you love has heart issues, make sure you switch out the chocolate and give them the healthiest chocolate on the planet.  It is difficult to make sure you are eating your daily recommended fruits and vegetables, healthy chocolate is a great option and it tastes great.
